Rainy day? School half-term? Looking for something to do with the kids that doesn’t involve screens? Those empty loo roll tubes in your recycling bin are about to become the most exciting craft project of the afternoon.
What You’ll Need
- 2 toilet paper roll tubes
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape or a stapler
- Wool or string
- Coloured card (or paint)
- A pen or hole punch
- Decorations: washi tape, pom poms, stickers, or whatever you’ve got
How to Make Them
Step 1: Colour Your Tubes
Cover your toilet paper tubes in coloured card or paint them bright colours. Let the paint dry if you’re using that route.
Step 2: Join Them Together
Attach the two tubes side-by-side using double-sided tape or a stapler at each end. Now you’ve got the basic binocular shape.
Step 3: Go Wild with Decorations
This is where it gets fun. Use washi tape, pom poms, stickers, or whatever decorations you have lying around. There’s no wrong way to do this.
Step 4: Make the Holes
Using a pen or hole punch, carefully make a hole near the top of each tube. These are where the strap goes.
Step 5: Add the Strap
Cut your wool or string to the right length, then thread it through the holes and tie it securely. Now your little one can wear their binoculars around their neck.
Step 6: Head Outside
Time to explore. What can they spot in the garden? Down the street? In the park?
