A Story We Had to Share

When customer emails land in our inbox, they often make us smile. Every now and then, one stops us in our tracks.

Recently, a customer wrote to tell us about a journey that had lasted 12 years. She described cracked, bleeding hands, countless GP visits, skin clinic appointments, patch testing, steroid creams and hundreds of pounds spent on treatments. Nothing seemed to work.

Then she made one simple change: she switched the toilet paper and sanitary products in her home to Cheeky Panda.

In her words:

“After about two weeks, I realised something had changed. My hands had suddenly, for the first time in 12 years, not split open or bled.”

“A few weeks later though, the issue was back. I was confused until I noticed that my husband had filled up the cupboard with the old toilet rolls… I asked him to get rid of them, and as soon as I was back using [Cheeky Panda], my problem stopped. My hands are now a good colour and are not sore… and I don’t cry when I pick up my baby grandchild.”

Stories like this remind us that the smallest everyday products can sometimes make the biggest difference.

Could Toilet Paper Affect Sensitive Skin?

Everyone's skin is different, and we can't say changing toilet paper will solve skin conditions. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions.

But if you have sensitive skin, eczema or dermatitis, it may be worth thinking about everything that touches your skin every day, not just your moisturiser. Toilet paper, tissues, wipes, clothing, towels and bedding can all be part of the bigger picture. The NHS notes that irritant contact dermatitis can be triggered by everyday substances such as soaps, detergents and the perfumes or preservatives in toiletries, and that friction can make symptoms worse.

Why We Choose 100% Bamboo

We've always believed families shouldn't have to choose between quality, value and sustainability. That's why our toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo fibre, not blended with recycled or virgin wood pulp.

The result is toilet paper that's 100% plant-based, soft, strong and designed for everyday family life. It's one of the many ways we're trying to prove there's a better way.

Why This Story Resonates

Our founders created Cheeky Panda personal care products after searching for better everyday products when their young son suffered from severe eczema. That experience shaped our belief that quality, value, and carefully chosen materials matter. Sustainability remains important, but our mission is simple: make brilliant everyday products that families love and trust.

What Are PFAS, And Why Are People Talking About Them?

To be clear: we don't know what caused the irritation in this story, and we're not suggesting PFAS played any part in it. But this customer’s experience reflects a bigger shift: people increasingly want to know what's actually in the products that touch their skin every day. One question that keeps coming up is PFAS.

You may have seen headlines about PFAS, sometimes called 'forever chemicals'. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large family of man-made chemicals that have been used in many products because they resist water, grease and stains.

Scientists and public health organisations have raised concerns because some PFAS can remain in the environment for a long time and, depending on the specific compound and level of exposure, may be associated with health and environmental risks.

For us at Cheeky Panda, transparency matters. Our toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo fibre, and unlike many recycled paper brands, we do not need to add de-inking chemicals that could result in PFAS during our manufacturing process. Better yet, Cheeky Panda toilet paper range has been tested PFAS-free!

A Little Note from the Panda Team

We love hearing from customers, especially when they tell us our products have made everyday life a little easier. While every person's experience is unique, stories like this inspire us to keep making products that are soft, strong, good value and thoughtfully made. After all, life's complicated enough; your toilet roll shouldn't be!
