Job Title: Legal and Compliance - Manager (Part-time, 2days per week) Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £40,000 (£16,000 based on 2 days per week)
Contract Length: 8-month contract
About Us
At Cheeky Panda, we are building a genuine force-for-good business, one that grows profitably to deliver real environmental and social impact. Our mission is to lead the bamboo revolution, save trees at scale, and prove that commercially smart businesses can be a powerful driver of positive change.
The Role
This role acts as the in-house guide for all things regulatory, claims-related and compliance-focused, ensuring packaging, marketing and environmental statements are accurate, substantiated and legally sound. It combines regulatory monitoring, contract support and cross team education to help the business move quickly without greenwashing or risk. Ultimately, you’ll shape the legal and compliance backbone of a fast growing, purpose led brand.
1. Packaging & Product Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor UK and EU packaging regulations, including EPR reporting categories, waste management fee rules, and materials/weight data accuracy, as reflected in our packaging obligations.
- Review and approve packaging artwork for mandatory information, regional labelling rules, icons (FSC, recyclability), ingredient accuracy, and disposal claims.
- Provide legal interpretation of regulatory changes and translate them into Cheeky friendly internal guidance.
2. Marketing & Environmental Claims Governance
- Ensure all claims comply with ASA guidelines, CMA’s Green Claims Code, CAP/BCAP rules, and relevant EU standards.
- Pre-screen marketing campaigns, social content, packaging, retailer listings and ads for compliant language and avoid greenwashing.
- Support the development and upkeep of our Responsible Marketing Policy
3. Claims Substantiation & Evidence Management
- Maintain (and elevate) the Centralised Claims & Evidence Dossier used across product categories.
- Confirm evidence validity: appropriate test type, test dates, factory relevance, certification fit, and whether results substantiate the exact SKU.
- Provide legal escalation on “grey area” claims identified by Marketing.
- Advise on when claims should be paused pending new testing.
4. Regulatory Horizon Scanning (UK, EU, Global)
- Track developments across:
- CMA Green Claims Code
- ASA rulings
- EU ECGT Directive and evolving EU green claims frameworks.
- Provide bite sized Cheeky updates to Marketing, Sustainability and Leadership so teams stay ahead of changes.
5. Training, Policies & Internal Education
- Develop and deliver short, friendly training sessions on acceptable claims, claim risk categories, testing requirements, packaging standards and regulatory duties.
- Help embed correct processes in Marketing, Design, EComm and Sustainability teams (reflecting workflow expectations)
✨ About You (Our Dream Cheeky Counsel)
- Knowledge of UK law or experience in commercial, regulatory, advertising or FMCG law.
- Passionate about sustainability and consumer protection.
- Able to translate dense regulation into human speak.
- Enjoys problem-solving and guiding teams rather than blocking them.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fastmoving environment.
🌱 Why You’ll Love Working With Us
- Help a purpose led brand scale ethically and responsibly.
- Work flexibly with a fun, supportive and slightly cheeky team.
- Shape the entire legal and compliance foundation of a high growth business.
- Ensure the world gets the bamboo products it deserves—without the greenwash.
