How to have a Sustainable Home Office

Working from home has been the norm now for a good couple of years. Whether you work 1 or 5 days from home, whether you work from your kitchen table, or home office decked out with a fancy ergonomic chair, let us help you to make it more green!

We get that its not easy to think about being green, life is busy and sometimes you just need a gentle reminder from your favourite neighbourhood panda. So here we go, our top 7 tips for a more sustainable home office:

Consider eco-friendly office supplies

We know its obvious,  but if you were already an eco office expert you probably wouldn’t be reading this blog post, so listen up! Try and purchase your stationary staples from online retailers who actually check out the sustainability credentials of their suppliers. Websites such as The Green Office | Eco Office Supplies, Office Furniture and Stationery and Green Office Supplies provide greener product choices from recycled products, to ethically produced.

Take it virtual

One thing the past few years has taught us is how much you can achieve over video call! Okay, you might need to say ‘you’re on mute!’ twenty times a day but that is MUCH more sustainable than travelling for meetings. Of course there are times when a face to face meeting is necessary and we get that,  but if you think it can be done via video call, save the travel emissions!

Buy some plants

I’m sure you already have, and probably killed a few along the way, but give it another go – it’s worth it! It’ll improve not only the quality of air you breathe but, according to some studies, it improves your mental wellbeing too. If you look after them, they’ll look after you too.

Utilise natural daylight

We say this as dreaded winter approaches but the good news is, we still get natural light (for a couple of hours at least). When natural light permits, sit by the window and enjoy. Its also been reported that exposure to natural light in an office will increase your productivity, health and overall wellbeing. It will help you save on your energy bills too!

Get energy efficient

The great thing about working from home is you are in control and one way you can easily make your home more sustainable is by using a green energy supplier. Currently, 19 energy suppliers in the UK offer 100% renewable energy, to learn more click here -Who are the best green energy suppliers? | usave.co.uk. Other small tips to save energy including turning off your monitor when not in use, utilise natural daylight and only boil water in the kettle that you need to avoid wasting energy.

Opt for planet happy bathroom products

So not technically your office, but we know you’ll be making a couple of trips there throughout the day so we have included it. Sustainable bathroom products are key to a sustainable home. Have you heard about The Cheeky Panda toilet roll? We thought so – our super soft bamboo tissue is the number one essential to a sustainable bathroom. Ditch the plastic bottles in favour of wasteless bars and remember to recycle all your packaging!

Have been working hard on getting my home office to become more sustainable. I have ditched the printer to help me cut down on paper use, as well as getting more reusable home office supplies. Small changes can help to make a difference.
