Ways to go Zero Waste

Hello to all our planet saving readers!

For this post we are looking at ways to go zero (or low.. we can't all be perfect!) waste, which is all about combatting our throwaway culture. As reported by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), going zero waste could reduce emissions from the waste management sector by a whopping 84%! That's an impressive figure, so let's have a look at how we do this... 

Go Vegan (or just give it a try!)

• Cutting out meat means reducing on huge amounts of invisible pollution in the production of meat such as breeding and raising the animals. So, grab a vegan recipe, stock up on chickpeas and put on your bamboo chef hat on!
• Also make sure to PLAN, PLAN and PLAN your meals to make sure that you only buy the food you need, and none is wasted.
• And if there is waste you know the deal… feed your compost!

Avoid plastic.

• Plastic packaging is everywhere! Luckily if you're armed with reusable bags, containers, and flasks you can avoid these! There has been a recent boom in local refill shops where you can get groceries without any of the nasty packaging.
• Other ways to do this include using just add water cleaning products and shampoo, hand and body wash bars.

Repair or Repurpose.

• This is a big one… become a DIY wizard and learn to fix what breaks and if they are beyond that then repurpose! For any clothes beyond repair try your hand at making them into that reusable bag to take to the shops! 

Fast fashion 

• Fast fashion according to the UN it is responsible for 8-10% of global emissions. Uh oh! 
• BUT vintage shops, Depop and Vinted, all reduce new items being produced and completes your look to rival even the edgiest of Instagram influencers!

Sustainable alternatives:

• Look at sustainable alternatives to everyday items that help to cut down on waste.
• In fact, we are pretty sure we’ve heard of a great bamboo tissue brand with a lovable panda mascot called Colin that could help with that…
