Our Straws are PFAS Free!

You might remember not long ago we were proud as punch to let you know that our toilet rolls are PFAS free (you can read the blog post here!). Well, today we have even more good news, our straws are PFAS free too!

Before we get into it, let's do a quick recap, what are PFAS?

PFAS or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are man-made chemicals that break down very slowly over time and can persist over thousands of years in the environment, this has led to them being known as “forever chemicals”.

The recent articles regarding the presence of PFAS in our everyday products like paper straws has raised concerns and rightly so! For example, a study in Belgium found forever chemicals in 18 out of 20 brands of paper drinking straws (Source:https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/paper-straw-chemicals-belgium-pfas-b2399147.html)

But how are these pesky PFAS getting into our products? PFAS are often used in the manufacturing process to make products more durable, the problem is, these forever chemicals can leach out of our straws and into our drinks! PFAS are not only harmful to the environment, but to human health too in large quantities.

We know how important it is to our consumers that our products are kind to our planet and that's why we completed third-party PFAS testing on our entire range of straws and we are pleased to let you know that no chemicals were detected!
