5 Eco Friendly DIY Masks!

Remember that time, in lockdown? With all the stores closed and no quick spa treatment available? What if we told you there are alternatives for your perfect eco-friendly skincare routine right in your fridge and cupboard?

Hold on tight, because we do! We’ve collected five amazing eco-friendly zero waste face masks below, including vegan alternatives.

1.Oh Honey Exfoliating mask
This cheeky mask is perfect for exfoliating your skin and make your face as soft as a panda bum! With only two ingredients, it’s pretty easy to make too, so there are no advanced DIY-skills required.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

That’s it! That’s all that’s required for your moisturising face mask. Honey is known to be naturally antibiotic and anti-inflammatory, and Manuka Honey is even said to reduce acne and scarring. Coconut oil helps clean your pores while retaining moisture, and all without any harsh chemicals!

2. Soothing Aloe Vera Mask
The facemask is a vegan alternative for acne-fighting face masks, and while it requires a few different ingredients, it’s just as easy to make as the first.

What you’ll need:
  • Aloe Vera gel
  • Tea Tree Oil

It’s no secret that Aloe Vera is known for calming and soothing your skin, especially after a long day in the sun. Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial properties, but be careful: it’s too harsh to go directly on your skin, so always mix it with a moisturising agent like aloe vera.
To apply, clean your skin thoroughly. Apply for ten minutes before rinsing it off and make sure to add some face cream to soothe and hydrate your skin.

3. DIY Turmeric Dream
 You’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric
  • ½ fresh organic lemon

This face mask is also completely vegan – and smells fantastic! Just mix a tablespoon of turmeric with freshly squeezed lemon for a fresh kick in the morning. The mask reduces redness and breakouts, and his known to help with hyperpigmentation and age spits, too! Turmeric has some anti-inflammatory properties, so in can help against psoriasis and eczema breakouts. But be careful – every skin is different, so dab your breakout first with a small amount of mixture to check for irritations.

4. Panda-licious Charcoal Peel-off mask
This vegan peel-off mask is perfect to gently remove dead skin cells and clean out pores from your face. To get that panda-soft skin, just follow these easy steps:

You’ll need:
  • ½ a teaspoon or 1 capsule of activated charcoal
  • 1 teaspoon agar agar powder
  • ½ cup of water
Preparation:
  1. Boil the water in a pan.
  2. Pour into a bowl and add the agar agar powder. Mix it together.
  3. Add the activated charcoal to it and mix it, too.
  4. Once it’s cooled enough for you to apply, spread it mixture over your face (but keep clear of the eyes and nostrils). Now, you’ll look like a panda. (ha!)
  5. Let it dry around 15 minutes or until the mask is completely dry.
  6. Peel the mask off.
  7. Tadaa! Panda-soft skin. If your skin is sensitive, use a drop of organic moisturizer.

5. Very Berry Love Mask
You think strawberries are just for dipping in melted chocolate? Surprise! Strawberries contain salicylic acid, which breaks down dead skin cells and clean out your skin! It also prevents flakiness and can balance your skin to prevent acne. Mixing it with coconut oil will give you the perfect moisturizer for your sensitive skin!
You’ll need:
  • 4-5 small strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • Clay mask for extra inflammatory/ anti-bacterial properties
Preparation:
Mash the strawberries until all the big bits are gone. Stir in the coconut oil and clay (i.e. kaolin clay from Amazon). Remove any traces of make-up before applying the mask on your face and neck. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

And that's it' 5 eco-friendly masks you can do at home!
